The short answer
UGC, or user-generated content, is brand-related content made by a creator for a brand to use, publish or license.
What does ugc mean?
UGC describes the content format and production relationship, not a payment model. A UGC deal may ask for an asset the brand publishes on its own channels, a post on the creator's account, or both. The deal should state who publishes the content, how many versions are required, whether raw footage is included and where the brand may reuse the work.
Creator example
A creator could film an unboxing and tutorial for a brand's paid social library without posting it to the creator's own channel.
Questions creators ask
Do UGC creators need a large following?
Asset-only work can focus on production quality rather than audience size. Creator-posted work may have audience requirements, so read each deal instead of relying on one universal threshold.
